Domain Names
A domain name is a unique name that identifies a website.
Every company or organization or individual that wants to be on the internet will register a domain name for its customers to be able to identify and remember the company’s name and address.
Every domain name corresponds to numeric IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. It takes the form of 4 numbers, each one between 0 and 255, separated by periods. Your IP address is to send data, for example, you may be connected with your domain name "seothoughts.co.uk", but for the network you are connecting to a web server with your IP address.
The Domain Name System is a collection of databases with information about domain names and an IP addresses.
