Search Engine
A search engine is a database of web pages provided in such a way that you can quickly create a list of web pages that match the search terms that you have entered.
A search engine works by sending out a spider to identify relevant documents. Each search engine uses an algorithm to create relevant results for each query.
Search Engines, such as Google, Yahoo, Msn, Ask are designed to search for information through the world wide web.
How Search Engines Work?
- A search engine sends an enquiry (spider or crawler) toidentify relevant web pages.
- The search engine database receives the information and creates an index of all relevant web pages.
Search Engines Types
There are two types of search engines: search engines and search directories. With the difference of how results are searched and displayed to the final user, we can separate them in four main categories, crawler-based search engines, directories, hybrid engines and paid search engines.
Crawler-Based Search Engines, spiders or web crawlers, search web pages through a software in order to identify results.
Spider-Based Search Engines, use directories as their main source to identify new websites.
Human-Edited Directories, do not use software but editor can review and index your site.
Hybrid Search Engines, evaluate sites and scan them to identify websites for a specific search.
Meta Search Engines, are search engines that will display results from different search engines for one query.
Paid Search Engines, offer advertising paid programs to display different adverts.
